Aspects of Scouting

There are 7 ranks of scouting. When you first join the troop you have no rank. You first get Scout, Tenderfoot, Second class, then First class. Those 4 ranks represent mastery of all your scout skills. Then is Star, Life and Eagle.

Scout Rank: Getting Scout rank means that you have to be registered to be in the troop. Getting scout only requires you to know basic, general knowledge about scouting. For example, the pledge of allegiance, scout oath, scout law, scout motto, and scout slogan.

Tenderfoot: Getting the rank of Tenderfoot means that you have recognized how you have shown scout spirit towards your peers, demonstrated your knowledge of basic first aid and physical fitness.

Second Class: In order to get Second Class, you must master skills like making a long lasting fire, demonstrating axe yard skills, and showing leadership in your patrol.

First Class: Getting First class shows that you have a basic mastery of all your skills including orienteering, cooking, camping, etc.

Star: To get Star, you must be active in the troop as a First class scout for at least 4 months and have a certain amount to eagle required merit badges

Life: To get Life, you must be active in the troop as a Star scout for a minimum of 6 months and have earned at least 5 more merit badges

Eagle: Finally is Eagle, the highest rank in scouting. Only about 6% of scouts achieve this rank. You must have a total of 22 merit badges including 14 eagle required ones. Getting Eagle scout means that you have shown scout spirit and have mastered each and every one of your skills
